Know how to link your Aadhaar card with your PAN and mobile number

Although there have been privacy concerns and the decision is currently being reviewed by the supreme court, you can easily link your Aadhaar with your PAN and mobile number in a few simple steps. Despite the recent clamour surrounding the Aadhaar card, the government has consistently extended the deadline to link your Aadhaar with phone numbers, LPG connections, bank accounts, and other important utilities.

Linking your Aadhaar to PAN

Step 1: Log in to the E-Filing portal: Visit the income tax filing website, and log in with your username and password.

Step 2: Change the profile settings: Once you have successfully logged in, go to the profile-setting tab and click on the ‘link Aadhaar’ option in the drop-down list.

Step 3: Link Aadhaar: Once the new window opens, it will display your details like name, gender, etc., as per the PAN. Verify it with your Aadhaar. Once it matches, you may get a captcha code to verify. Enter the captcha code and click on ‘link Aadhaar’.

Ensure that the gender and birthdate listed on the PAN and Aadhaar cards match. The linkage is confirmed after the data has been verified by UIDAI.

  • Linking your Aadhaar to your phone number is also straightforward. This is how:
  • Consult your telecom service provider with your Aadhaar number.
  • Give the operator your phone number; an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
  • Provide the operator with the OTP
  • The operator will obtain fingerprints for biometric verification
  • After completion, you will receive an SMS confirming the connection.

It is now required, per the Finance Act of 2017, to provide your Aadhaar number when filing your income tax return. Linking your Aadhaar number with your PAN and your phone number is now required, and failure to do so could result in the cancellation of your PAN. Link your PAN to your Aadhaar and phone number in order to avoid future complications.
